A CELEBRITY dog trainer has revealed certain behaviors that may indicate you’ve picked the wrong breed for your family.

Certified professional trainer and TikTok sensation Sam Hoke told the U.S. Sun that some breeds can start to act out if they don’t have a proper job that fits their needs.

“If you’re a family, you wanna avoid some stronger, working breed dogs,” Hoke aka @dogtrainerofficial said.

The celeb trainer who has worked with the likes of Lady Gaga explained that pups like German Shepherds, Malinois, and other herding types have been specifically bred for demanding jobs.

So, having the canine sit at home while you’re working or traveling isn’t ideal in the slightest.

“They need really strong jobs,” Hoke told the Sun.

“And when you get them as a family dog you don’t really have the time or the energy to train it to sniff for bombs or herd cattle.”

If these pups aren’t stimulated with activities that use their skills or talents, they’ll find any way to use up their energy.

This is when the naughty behavior begins.

“So they’re sitting at home building up this energy thinking ‘I need something to do cause I’m bored,” Hoke said.

“They’re gonna start chewing up your furniture, barking at every single thing that moves, and herding your kids.”

Despite these canines being slightly more demanding than others, Hoke explained they can still be awesome pets for those who are willing to put in the work.

“You have to be prepared for it. I don’t think a lot of people realize the amount of effort it will take,” the celeb dog trainer told the Sun.

Hoke advises people with prior responsibilities like children or a demanding job to look for lower-energy animals that require less training.

When he isn’t sharing tips on his TikTok, the celeb trainer is working at his exclusive dog training facility in Los Angeles, California, Ranch Dog Training.

This comes as a veterinarian has shared which dog breeds she would never own based on her medical experience with the puppies.

Posting to TikTok Dr Whitney Terrell says that there are a number of dog breeds that she would never own, in part due to her being a veterinarian and her experiences with these different breeds, while some are just personal taste.

Chinese Crested and other hairless breeds

The first breed Whitney says she wouldn’t own is the Chinese Crested, adding that she just doesn’t like hairless animals.

“They’re zitty, they’re greasy,” says Whitney, “the same with cats, they kinda feel like a ball sack. It’s a no from me.”

Chihuahuas

Referring to them as ankle-biters, this vet says that Chihuahuas are not her cup of tea.

“Afraid I’m gonna get stepped on, more than likely be a bit if I have one, they’re usually a one-person dog,” she adds.

She says that there are a few Chihuahuas who come to the surgery she works at that are nice, but the vast majority of this breed is aggressive ankle-biters.

Brachycephalic breeds (Pugs, Shi Tzus, Boston Terriers, etc)

“Some are really cute, but they can’t breathe. Literally, they cannot breathe” says Whitney.

“They snore, I’ve already got a husband that snores, I don’t need anything else that snores.”

She adds that these dog breeds commonly suffer from dermatitis, have a lot of allergies, and are yeasty, smelly, and gassy.

German Shepherd and Belgian Malinois

These have the potential to be really great pets, but Whitney says that they can require a lot of training, which she wouldn’t have the time to do due to her job.

She adds that “95% of the ones we see in clinics want to bite your face off because they’re not properly trained.”

If you plan to get one of these dogs, she says that you should not make the decision lightly and should be sure you have the time to train and take care of them.

Doodle

Whitney says that in her experience these dogs are quite hyperactive and can’t sit still for two seconds before needing to run around again.

She adds that this breed can also have regular ear infections, so can cost quite a bit in vet bills, and on top of this they’re also super expensive to have groomed.

“Just too high maintenance for me, I’d rather have a hound dog,” she finishes.
