ENCINITAS – Take a stroll around The Lumberyard at 8:30 a.m. on the 4th Friday morning of every month and you will likely run into a lively group of professionals enjoying deliciously unique doughnuts and coffee at Broad Street Dough Co. For Joseph Ramaglia, the owner, hosting the monthly “Coffee Connections” for the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce just makes a lot of sense.
“While opening my business in 2020, I met one of the members of the Encinitas Chamber who invited me to join. I was excited and eager to do so.”
“I have always had a belief that a strong community can persevere and thrive under any circumstance when there is a cohesive bond within it,” he adds. “The Chamber provides a great opportunity to meet and support new neighbors and spend time with those whom you may already know. The Chamber was very supportive during the opening of my business and has remained supportive ever since.”
Construction began on Broad Street Dough Co. a few weeks prior to the onset of Covid in February 2020, and they opened to the public that October. Joseph and his fiancée chose Encinitas because they live in the area, have always spent their free time here, and love the laid-back vibe and beach culture of Encinitas.
Family owned and operated, Broad Street Dough Co. is a “made-to-order” doughnut shop, offering 40+ different donuts with revolving daily specials. They are 100% Kosher, offer an extensive selection of “Vlugen” — Vegan and Gluten free options — and can accommodate most allergies upon request. They have mini doughnuts and custom themes and decorations perfect for any occasion.
“I grew up in Montclair, New Jersey, attended culinary school and worked my way through the ranks of the hospitality industry in New York City. I moved to Los Angeles in 2004 after visiting and falling in love with Southern California. In 2014, I moved to San Diego, met my fiancée, started a family and a business. Along my journey, I have opened 6 businesses ranging from luxury hotels, upscale restaurants, private members clubs and the Ballast Point Miramar.”
“A perfect day in Encinitas for me starts with a good cup of coffee, some time at the beach, a walk with my dog, and then some quality time with my family getting a bite to eat and some drinks on the 101. And, of course, crafting the perfect doughnut.”
